These arc faults can cause fires if they are not detected and extinguished quickly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a id=\"post-804-_Hlk141341886\"><\/a>   <strong>Regulation 421.1.7 (BS7671:2018+A2:2022)<\/strong> states that AFDDs complying with BS EN 62606 <strong>shall be installed in<\/strong> single-phase AC circuits supplying socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 32 A in certain high-risk locations. These locations include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\n    High risk residential buildings \u20181.8 m high or greater than 6 storeys\u2019\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    Houses of multiple occupation\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    Purpose built student accommodation.\n  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\n    Care homes\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n  In addition to these high-risk locations, AFDDs may also be considered for use in other single-phase circuits not exceeding 32 A in areas where there is a potential for arc faults, such as domestic installations, commercial kitchens and industrial settings.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n  AFDDs work by analysing the electrical waveform of a circuit. If an arc fault is detected, the AFDD will automatically shut off power to the circuit, preventing the fire from starting. AFDDs are typically installed in consumer units at the origin of the circuit, along with other electrical safety devices such as circuit breakers and residual current devices \u2018RCDs\u2019.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n  The cost of AFDDs varies depending on the type and rating of the device.
