The following safe isolation procedure could save your life.
If you have no experience and/or knowledge then you can’t avoid the dangers that are present and you should not be working on any electrical circuits or equipment. If in doubt always consult a competent (electrically skilled) person.
- Select an approved tester (see GS38).
- Inspect to see that it’s not damaged.
- Prove that it works on a known live supply or a proving unit.
- Identify the circuit to be isolated and ask permission to switch off.
- Turn off the circuit breaker.
- Attach the lock off device, label and padlock and put the key in your pocket.
- Check that the circuit / accessory is dead. N-L, E-L and N-E (single phase 230v).
- If everything is dead then prove that the tester is still working.
- Complete task, make good, repair, replace, make safe etc.
- Inspect and test if needed.
- Inform that you are switching back on.
- Remove lock, lock off device and label and switch back on.
- Check to see if all is working, test if needed.
- Complete any certification if needed.
Stay safe. Thank you
