Whether you are considering a career in electrical installation or looking to stay current in the industry, you’re likely to be already aware of how essential it is to keep up with the latest Wiring Regulations. But with some confusing info out there about the 19th Edition Wiring Regulations and the upcoming 18th Edition Amendment 4, we need to set the record straight so you can plan your 18th Edition training with confidence.
The Facts About the 19th Edition Wiring Regulations
First things first: there’s no confirmed release date for the 19th Edition Wiring Regulations. Despite any rumors, the IET hasn’t announced any specific plans for it. For now, the next major update will be Amendment 4 to the 18th Edition, which is due to be published in 2026.
What’s Coming with the 18th Edition Amendment 4?
The 18th Edition Amendment 4 will address updates that reflect recent advances in technology and European standards, including areas such as:
- Stationary secondary batteries
- Low voltage generating sets
- Power over Ethernet (PoE)
- Energy efficiency
- Functional earthing and bonding for ICT (Information and communication technology) equipment
This amendment will be essential reading when it arrives, but until then, if you’re working in electrical installation or maintenance, you’ll need the current Amendment 2 (the ‘brown book’ from 2022) and the short 2024 Amendment 3 PDF, which you can download free with your course.
Our Advice to Learners
We’ve noticed some learners are considering putting off their 18th Edition qualification, hoping the 19th Edition will be released soon. Here’s why we’d advise against waiting:
- The 19th Edition is not on the immediate horizon, and the next confirmed update is Amendment 4 in 2026 and it’s likely to be another two or three years before the 19th Edition arrives.
- It’s standard industry practice to keep up with the latest amendments rather than waiting for a new edition. Staying current is essential for compliance and safety.
- Any of our students who pass their 18th Edition exam with us during 2025 or after will receive free access to our 19th Edition online course when it eventually arrives.
Watch Out for Misinformation
We know some websites are circulating incorrect information about a 2025 release for the 19th Edition, which is simply untrue. For accurate updates on wiring regulations, always rely on the IET or BSI official channels.
